Dear Hands On! members,

Hands On! International Association of Children in Museums will present its 10th conference in October. The board of the organization has decided that this year, the biannual conference will take place in The Netherlands. The Rijksmuseum and the Jewish Historical Museum are the main organizers. The National Maritime Museum, Science Center Nemo and the Dutch Museum Association are also closely involved in the realization of this international conference. Over thirty museums in the Netherlands are united in an advisory group and are actively engaged.

The four-day conference commences on Tuesday October 13th. Alongside our programme of keynote speakers, museum visits and the presentation of the Children in Museums Award we have reserved time for the input of HO! members. We invite you to give an hour-long workshop, a twenty-minute lecture or a palorado on 13, 14 or 15 October. In the latter format you have 6 minutes, with or without visual support, to present your organization or an innovative idea. The workshops and lectures should reference the theme Touch and Learn and be related to one of the following categories: management, technology, exhibitions and creative learning. The subject of your palorado is unrestricted, as long it has a connection with Hands On! The workshops, lectures and parolado’s will be at your own expenses. We offer a platform and publicity.

As we cannot include everything/everyone in our programme, we kindly request you submit your proposal by the 31st of March. Your proposal should include a short description of yourself, your organization and the subject of your presentation in under 200 words. Subjects may include the vision of your organization in relation to children’s education and how this is executed, how your organization approaches families and children, successful programmes, obstacles, future plans or something specific that your organization is currently involved with. A committee established by us will determine in April which proposals are most suited to the conference, after which they will inform you. Before submitting a proposal (for a workshop, lecture or parolado) you are required to pay your membership fee if you have not yet done so.

We look forward to receiving your proposal and presenting all conference participants with the latest developments in the field of museum education for children and stimulating the professionalization of our field of work. You may address your proposal and any questions to us at: Handson@rijksmuseum.nl
